I know they made them, there's one local near me for sale, 2004 Peerless (according to serial#) with a custom fit Bigsby (factory?). I'll need more info about the shape of the guitar but seems good...did they make a lot of black ones? It seems like they're mostly all VSB or Nat. Update, it's a Riviera, I was thrown by the Bigsby. Is there much difference between the two? Sound-wise I guess. How do the mini-humbuckers compare to P-90's? Thanks. Strat, Cort C4Z Bass, K-Yairi Semi-acoustic, IBJL Casino!!!

Mini humbuckers are a lot different animal than P90s. Every bit as nice but different. What sound are you going for?

Thanks for the reply, pretty much all the descriptions of what a P-90 can do...chimey/crunch/clean/blues...I'm not a metal guy. I play/record through a Blues Jr. I have GFS lil killers on my strat wired for single/bucker on a push pull and I don't like THOSE humbucker tones so I'm not sure about the Riviera or any other humbucked sound...just thought they may be close to a p90... A mini humbucker is not really heavy sounding. More lazy and bluesy I find, and they sound more rounded, like a single coil. They're not really punchy and responsive like a large humbucker, at least not in my experience. They're more ov a vintage output, so they're not really super hot and in your face. That said, I'd much rather the Casino over a Riviera but, as always, I'm not without bias, given that I have a Casino of my own. I lovei t, it's beautiful, sounds gorgeous, and just feels right to play. The P90s are fantastic, as you already seem to know. They do sound fantastic clean, very clear and defined sound. Of course part of that is the hollowness too, giving it an acoustic like quality. The whole guitar is very resonant. And even with some drive on, it's very clear, but certainly you can get a nice low fi crunch. You can indeed get a Black one, though I've never seen one first hand. Looks pretty classy. That pic is from the website of one of the lare music store chains here in NZ, so apparently they have some.

I think it'd look better with a trans-black flame maple top, and i do believe there was a wildkat with that finish, yes? _________________________________________________ "jazz 'aint the devil's music, mariachi music is!" -me

Yeah thanks, the Riviera looked pretty sweet but woooooow does that black Casino look hot...I wanted a VS first then Natural for the sentimental "Lennon" value but yikes I think I'd jump at a black one too! Strat, Cort C4Z Bass, K-Yairi Semi-acoustic, IBJL Casino!!!
