Hi Swoop:That Firebird VII has got to be one of the prettiest guitars I've ever seen,I let an original sunburst get away in the mid 70's ($400) and I've gassed for one ever since. Here's my question...What's the configuration of the controls, are there 3 volume controls and a master tone as in the G400 Custom or 2 volume and 2 tone?Just wondering.By the way I'll swap you any internal organ for it. ------------------------------------------------------------ '08 Natural Casino,'65 John Lennon Casino,EJ160E John Lennon,Epi.G400 Custom,Epi.Custom Shop '06 Firebird Sunburst. 60sVoxes:MkVI Acoustic,AstroIV modelV273 bass,PhantomXII. 60's Hagstroms:Corvette,HagstromII. Hi mate, glad you like it. Yes, it has 3 volume controls and one master tone control, which works pretty well I think. You can use any one of the pickups individually, any two of them together, or all of them at once, which makes it quite versatile tonally. Sorry mate, I don't really need any internat organs at the moment. Being 18, mine are still in fairly good condition!
I do unfortunately neglect the 'Bird a little. I gave it a rewire a while back. Prior to that I messed about with changing the caps, but since each pot had one, it was a bit of a birds nest in there, and I couldn't figure out how to wire it all up again. I wired it like a 3 pickup Les Paul. Still functions the same, but there's only one capacitor on the tone pot now, and it's much simpler. Unfortunately it now sounds a bit thin and weedy, not ballsy like it once did, so it doesn't get played as much as it should. I'm going to save up some cash and have it professionally rewired though, and hopefully that'll fix it all.

Thanks for the prompt reply,it would certainly be worth getting put back in A-1 working order as it is a beautiful instrument. -------------------------------------------------------- '08 Natural Casino,'65 John Lennon Casino,EJ160E John Lennon,Epi.G400 Custom,Epi.Custom Shop '06 Firebird Sunburst. 60sVoxes:MkVI Acoustic,AstroIV modelV273 bass,PhantomXII. 60's Hagstroms:Corvette,HagstromII. They're out here, Bonzo ... though it might take a bit of searching. One of these days, Epi will start making them again ... especially if some "name" guitar-slinger starts using one ... Here's the one that I picked up about six months ago from Cow Town Guitars here in Vegas. They had it on consignment and I got it for a really great price. It's one of my favorite guitars: Good luck! Jim

Seeing as we're asking Swoop questions: How much did it cost ya to get that pickguard cut? I'm looking at getting a white one for my Explorer done.. MIDIMan56 wrote:Epi will start making them again ... especially if some "name" guitar-slinger starts using one ...
Tell you what Jim, when I finish my record and become famous, I'll do it. :P

Hey Sjael. The pickguard cost me $45 to get done at EmblemsNZ in Hamilton. The Explorer one is a lot simpler and easier, so it probably wouldn't even cost you that much.

Thanks for the info Swoop, just needed to know when I'll have enough money to inquire about it :P @Jim: I am NOT metal! :P Of course I need to maintain an image up front in my metal band, but there is nothing metal about the folk rock tracks on my solo album. My signature Firebird would be in a finish much like yours, except with a darker stain and a black pickguard. And some of that Thunderbird Pro neck-thru-imitation-stripe stuff. Imagine that in guitar size with gold hardware and maestro. Now we're talking.

Hi Midiman:That guitar is identical to the Circa 64 Gibson I could have gotten back in the 70s for $400.I still kick myself daily over that.I've been looking on Ebay from time to time but no luck.My biggest hurdle is getting my better half to go along with it,I've bought 5 guitars and 2 amps in the past year and her patience and our bank account are wearing thin. I imagine a lot of us are in that boat.
